Why Ecology Archive?

Ecology is possible to talk of fighting the 50-year history in Turkey. The memory of the cultural and political accumulation against the destructions caused by the rapid, distorted and unplanned industrialization and urbanization that have been developing since the 1970s is not as tidy. The knowledge and documents of the ecology struggle memory should be made accessible. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure that the collections of books and journals as well as the collections of documents and oral history studies created by individuals and communities are used in a way that creates a common public space.

Turkey in the field of urban and environmental protection, which consists of the first half of the 1990s Izmir Lawyers Environment Action There is an undisputed place and importance of legal efforts made by the Group. This group of lawyers has been primarily Izmir forms, including all major contribution to the protection of cultural and natural values in Turkey. The documents that are the product of a team work both shed light on the state-society-capital relations of the 1980s-1990s and reflect the social cultural relations of the period. The collective documents of every lawyer who forms the group in terms of shaping the urban life are filled with “stories that make us”. It is primarily the responsibility of the subjects of ecology struggle to carry this memory to future generations as a collection.

With this in mind, moving and carrying out conservation activities in the legal field Ecology Collective Association, culture and nature collections representing this unique memory protection "digital archive" a study başlatmıştır.b standards are appropriately will meet with the public as the first product of intention in the recent history of Turkey, The archive of the lawyer Noyan Özkan, which has an important place especially in the struggle for the city and ecology, has been opened as a digital library.

Thanks to the digitization activity, the original of the document is protected, dissemination of information is ensured and the wearing of the information source is prevented. The original protection of the document is to prevent the original copies of the sources from being damaged by hand-to-hand. By making digital sources that are rare or single copies available digitally, they are both protected and valuable, and the information becomes social and available to many people at the same time. Thus, it is possible to access information and view the source wherever in the world.

The Ecology Collective, which carries out digitalization activities, develops its intellectual knowledge through open access or internal sharing and provides a platform for all ecology subjects (personal and institutional). This archive platform also aims to prevent the loss of data of individuals and institutions, to establish a public relationship between the data, to create a public space based on the open source system.

The Ecology Collective aims to provide a qualified and systematic information and communication ground by presenting all kinds of social, political, and cultural activities carried out in the field of ecology to our public memory. With this perspective, it builds its corporate reputation and awareness.

However, ensuring that information sources reach wider audiences will increase the quality of research. (Korkmaz, 2015). With this archive, the meeting of personal collections for urban and nature protection with the society also offers a historical perspective on the continuity of urban memory. Not reducing history to subjectivities and objectivity; It is the basic perspective of this archive to make institutions and objectivity as well as individuals live in our memory simultaneously. It is this personal, institutional and collective memory of information that makes cities live and reproduce them. This memory, which keeps the concepts of solidarity, collaboration, and social justice, which constitute the urban values alive, is also vital steps that will make the spaces livable.
